أعلن المجلس الأوروبي تعيين اللاتفية إلز براندز كيريس في منصب الممثل الخاص للاتحاد لحقوق الإنسان.

ووفقا ل(آكي نيوز) الإيطالية، ستباشر الممثلة الخاصة الجديدة للاتحاد الأوروبي مهامها على الفور، وذلك لفترة تستمر حتى 29 شباط 2028. كما ستواصل براندز كيريس "عمل أسلافها، وذلك للمساهمة في تنفيذ سياسة الاتحاد الأوروبي بشأن حقوق الإنسان، بالإضافة إلى مواقف الاتحاد الأوروبي المتعلقة بتعزيز الامتثال للقانون الدولي الإنساني ودعم العدالة الجنائية الدولية"، وفق المذكرة الصادرة في بروكسل.

وشغلت براندز كيريس مؤخراً منصب الأمين العام المساعد لحقوق الإنسان ومديرة مكتب نيويورك التابع لمفوضية الأمم المتحدة السامية لحقوق الإنسان، وذلك في الفترة من كانون الثاني 2020 حتى أيار 2026.
