انضم الدبلوماسي الأوغندي أولارا أوتونو إلى السباق على منصب الأمين العام المقبل للأمم المتحدة، ليصبح المرشح السابع لخلافة أنطونيو جوتيريش عند انتهاء ولايته نهاية هذا العام.

ورشحت أوغندا أوتونو، وهو وكيل أمين ‌عام سابق للأمم المتحدة شغل منصب الممثل الخاص المعني بالأطفال والنزاعات المسلحة، في رسالة أُرسلت يوم الجمعة إلى رئيسي الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة ومجلس الأمن.

ويعد أوتونو (75 عاما) أكبر المرشحين الحاليين سنا لهذا المنصب الذي شغله جوتيريش لفترتين مدة كل منهما خمس سنوات.
