انتخبت الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة، الليلة الماضية، الرئيس العراقي السابق، برهم صالح لمنصب المفوض السامي للأمم المتحدة لشؤون اللاجئين خلفا للإيطالي فيليبو غراندي.

وستبدأ خدمة المفوض الجديد في الأول من كانون الثاني القادم وتنتهي في 31 كانون الأول 2030، أي لمدة 5 سنوات.

وسيخلف صالح، فيليبو غراندي من إيطاليا، الذي أعرب له الأمين العام عن امتنانه العميق لقيادته وجهوده الدؤوبة في حماية اللاجئين والنازحين وعديمي الجنسية.

وهنأت رئيسة الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة، أنالينا بيربوك والأمين العام للأمم المتحدة، أنطونيو غوتيريش برهم صالح على انتخابه مفوضا ساميا للأمم المتحدة لشؤون اللاجئين.
