انتخب مجلس الأمن والجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة، الثلاثاء، القاضي الأردني محمود ضيف الله الحمود، قاضيا في محكمة العدل الدولية لمدة 9 أعوام.

وتبدأ ولاية الحمود في 6 شباط المقبل، وتنتهي في شباط عام 2036.

وكان الحمود انتُخب في أيار العام الماضي للفترة التكميلية في المحكمة، عقب استقالة القاضي اللبناني نواف سلام. وسبق له أن شغل منصب مندوب الأردن الدائم لدى الأمم المتحدة.

وفي عام 2016، انتخبت الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة الحمود عضواً في لجنة القانون الدولي، وهي هيئة أممية تُعنى بالتطوير التدريجي للقانون الدولي وتدوينه.
