ارتفعت حصيلة ضحايا غرق عبّارة ركّاب قبل أسبوعين في بحر جاوة بأندونيسيا إلى 64 قتيلا، بحسب ما أعلن مسؤول السبت، فيما أفادت السلطات أخيرا بتمديد عمليات البحث عن عشرات المفقودين.

وقال يودي برامانتيو، مدير وكالة البحث والإغاثة الوطنية خلال مؤتمر صحافي "من بين 243 شخصا كانوا على متن العبارة، تم إجلاء 172 ونجا 108، ولقي 64 حتفهم، فيما لا يزال البحث جاريا عن 71 آخرين".

وكانت العبّارة "فيرغو ترانسبورت 8" تحمل 213 راكبا و30 من أفراد الطاقم عندما أبحرت من سورابايا في شرق جزيرة جاوة متوجهة إلى بانجارماسين في جزيرة بورنيو.

وتكثر الحوادث البحرية في إندونيسيا التي تضم أكثر من 17 ألف جزيرة وتعتمد بشكل كبير على النقل البحري، ويعود ذلك جزئيا إلى عدم التقيّد بمعايير السلامة وتقلبات الأحوال الجوية.
