لقي 51 شخصاً، غالبيتهم نساء وأطفال، مصرعهم اليوم إثر انقلاب قارب في نهر بولاية سوكوتو شمال غربي نيجيريا.

وأكدت السلطات المحلية الحادثة التي تعزوها التقارير إلى تشغيل السفن في ظروف غير آمنة وحمولات زائدة.

بدوره، أكد عبد القادر يوسف مدير هيئة الممرات المائية الداخلية الوطنية في ولاية سوكوتو، وقوع الحادث، فيما ذكرت وسائل إعلام أن القارب كان يقل أشخاصًا في طريقهم إلى مزارع للعمل في بلدة جوراو التابعة لمنطقة غورونيو الإدارية التابعة لولاية سوكوتو.

وتشيع حوادث القوارب التي يسقط فيها قتلى في نيجيريا، حيث تشغل السفن رحلات في ظروف غير آمنة في كثير من الأحيان.
