انتخب حزب العمال البريطاني آندي بورنهام زعيماً جديداً له خلال مؤتمر خاص للحزب عُقد اليوم الجمعة في لندن، بعد حصوله على دعم واسع من نواب الحزب وعدد من النقابات العمالية، تمهيداً لتوليه منصب رئيس الوزراء خلفاً لكير ستارمر يوم الاثنين المقبل.

ووفقاً لهيئة الإذاعة البريطانية "بي بي سي"، حصل بورنهام على 379 ترشيحاً من نواب الحزب، متجاوزاً الحد المطلوب البالغ 20% من أعضاء الكتلة البرلمانية العمالية، ما أهّله للانتقال إلى المرحلة النهائية من إجراءات انتخاب الزعيم.

ومع عدم وجود مرشح آخر مستوفٍ للشروط، أُعلن بورنهام زعيماً منتخباً لحزب العمال البريطاني.
