وأحرز ليونيل ميسي هدفي المباراة، ليقود منتخب بلاده إلى الفوز الثاني تواليا في البطولة، وينفرد بصدارة قائمة هدافي كأس العالم عبر التاريخ بعدما رفع رصيده إلى 18 هدفا، متجاوزا الرقم القياسي السابق المسجل باسم الألماني ميروسلاف كلوزه، والبالغ 16 هدفا.
