انتخبت الجمعية العامة اليوم وزير خارجية بنغلادش، خليل الرحمن رئيسا للجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة في دورتها الحادية والثمانين التي تبدأ في أيلول القادم.

وحصل خليل على 99 صوتا مقابل 91 صوتا للقبرصي اندرياس كاكوليس حيث يتطلب الفوز بالمنصب الحصول على أغلبية الأصوات، أي 86 صوتا على الأقل من الدول 190 التي شاركت في التصويت اليوم الثلاثاء.

ويخلف خليل الرحمن الرئيسة الحالية أنالينا بيربوك، وزيرة الخارجية الألمانية السابقة، التي تنتهي مهامها في أيلول بعد عام كامل كرئيسة للجمعية العامة في دورتها الحالية.
