قال المتحدث باسم وزارة الخارجية الأميركية تومي بيغوت، الجمعة، إنه سيتم تمديد وقف إطلاق النار في لبنان لمدة 45 يومًا في أعقاب الجولة الأخيرة من "المحادثات المثمرة للغاية بين إسرائيل ولبنان".

وكتب بيغوت عبر منصة "إكس": "نأمل أن تسهم هذه المناقشات في تحقيق سلام دائم بين البلدين، والاعتراف الكامل بسيادة كل منهما وسلامة أراضيه، وإرساء أمن حقيقي على طول حدودهما المشتركة".

وبموجب شروط وقف إطلاق النار، يُسمح لإسرائيل بتنفيذ عمليات "دفاعية".

ويأتي تمديد وقف إطلاق النار الهش، الذي كان من المقرر أن ينتهي الأحد، والذي شهد تبادل عشرات الضربات بين إسرائيل وحزب الله، قبل أيام من الموعد المقرر لانتهاء وقف إطلاق النار الأخير.
