أدانت هيئة محلفين الجمعة هادي مطر (23 عاما) الحامل للجنسيتين الأميركية واللبنانية بتهمة محاولة قتل الكاتب سلمان رشدي بعد طعنه مؤلف رواية "آيات شيطانية" بالسكين عدة مرات أثناء مشاركته في حدث أدبي، وفق ما أفاد متحدث قضائي.

وقال متحدث باسم المحكمة في بيان أرسل عبر البريد الإلكتروني إن "المتهم أدين بالتهمتين"، وهما محاولة القتل من الدرجة الثانية والاعتداء، في الهجوم الذي وقع في مؤسسة تشوتوكوا في شمال ولاية نيويورك، مضيفا أنه من المقرر النطق بالحكم في 23 نيسان/أبريل.
