نجح منتخب كرواتيا وصيف كأس العالم في روسيا 2018، في إقصاء المنتخب الياباني من بطولة كأس العالم فيفا قطر 2022 والتأهل لدول الثمانية بضربات الترجيح 3-1، وذلك خلال مباراة التي جرت مساء اليوم الاثنين على استاد الجنوب بمدينة الوكرة أمام نحو 44 ألف متفرج.

وانتهى الوقت الأصلي للمباراة بالتعادل الإيجابي هدف لهدف، واستمر التعادل في الشوطين الإضافيين، ليتم الحسم من خلال ضربات الجزاء.

وكانت مباراة كرواتيا واليابان أول مباراة في دور الثمانية لبطولة كأس العالم فيفا قطر 2022، ينتهي وقتها الأصلي بالتعادل، ما أدى إلى خوض شوطين إضافيين استمر خلالهما التعادل، ليتم في نهاية المطاف اللجوء إلى الركلات الترجيحية.

وسيلتقي المنتخب الكرواتي في مباراته التالية، مع الفائز من مواجهة البرازيل وكوريا الجنوبية، في لقاء يجمعهما يوم الجمعة المقبل.
