اكتشف علماء من جامعة ماريلاند في بالتيمور بالولايات المتحدة الأمريكية سبب إصابة الذكور بالتوحد والفصام أكثر من الإناث.

ونشرت مجلة "Nature Communications" نتائج دراسة الباحثين الذين حللوا إحصائيات المرضى، ووجدوا أن كل أنثى مصابة بالتوحد يقابلها من 3 إلى 4 ذكور مصابين بنفس المرض.

كما اكتشف الباحثون أن هذه النسبة تنطبق على المصابين بأمراض الفصام واضطراب نقص الانتباه وعسر القراءة والتخلف العقلي.

وحدد العلماء المورثة "OGT" المسؤولة عن هذا التباين بين نسب الإصابات بالأمراض العصبية، ومورثة "H3K27me3" المرتبطة بها، والتي تؤثر على تكوين البروتينات المسؤولة عن تغذية مشيمة الطفل وهو لا يزال في الرحم.

وأكد العلماء أن جين "OGT" يتموضع على الكروموسوم الأنثوي "Х"، ويكون نشطا لدى الإناث أكثر من الرجال، وهذا ما قد يفسر الإصابات المضاعفة للأمراض العصبية لدى الذكور.
