قال علماء إن خيوط العنكبوت يمكن أن تحمي الخضروات المزروعة من الحشرات المتطفلة.
وقال الباحثان أن ريبسترا و كريستوفر بادل من جامعة ميامي بولاية أوهايو الأمريكية في دراستهم بمجلة «بايولوجي ليترز» إنهم وجدوا أن الخنافس المتطفلة تجنبت نبات الفول بعدما عولجت أوراقه مسبقا بنسيج العنكبوت.
ورجح الباحثون أن الكثير من الحشرات تخشى الاقتراب من العنكبوت المفترس.
وتبين للباحثين من خلال التجارب أن وجود الحرير بشكل عام على أوراق النباتات يخفض من وجود الحشرات ولكن حرير العنكبوت كان الأوضح تأثيرا والأكثر فعالية على هذه الحشرات.
