شدد رئيس الوزراء الكندي مارك كارني الخميس على أن بحيرة أونتاريو ستحمل هذا الاسم "اليوم وإلى الأبد" عقب توقيع الرئيس دونالد ترامب مرسوما يغير اسمها، بحسب قوله، إلى "بحيرة أميركا".

وقال كارني على إكس "نعلم أن أميركا تتغير. علاقاتها التجارية، وسياساتها الخارجية، ومعالمها الوطنية، وأسماء مسطحاتها المائية" مضيفا "يدرك الكنديون ضرورة تسمية الأشياء بأسمائها، وهذه البحيرة اسمها بحيرة أونتاريو اليوم وإلى الأبد".
