تجاوز إجمالي الدين العام الأميركي 40 تريليون دولار، وهي عتبة تم تخطيها بوتيرة أسرع مما كان متوقعا، وفق ما أظهرت بيانات حكومية الأربعاء.

وتأتي زيادة المديونية في ظل تنامي الالتزامات الأميركية طويلة الأجل المرتبطة بالضمان الاجتماعي والرعاية الصحية، فضلا عن ارتفاع مدفوعات الفائدة.

وبلغ إجمالي الدين العام القائم 40,05 تريليون دولار عند إغلاق تعاملات الثلاثاء، وفق بيانات أصدرتها وزارة الخزانة الأربعاء.

وكان مكتب الميزانية في الكونغرس أشار في توقعات إلى أن إجمالي الاقتراض سيصل إلى 39,4 تريليون دولار بحلول نهاية السنة المالية 2026.

ويعزى تسارع ارتفاع الدين جزئيا إلى فقدان إيرادات بعدما ألغت المحكمة العليا رسوما جمركية فرضها الرئيس دونالد ترامب.
