وافق ماوريسيو بوتشيتينو على تجديد عقده مدربا للمنتخب الأميركي للرجال حتى كأس العالم لكرة القدم 2030 بعد أن قاد فريقه إلى دور 16 في نسخة هذا العام من البطولة.

وتولى الأرجنتيني البالغ من العمر 54 عاما، والذي يفضل أسلوب كرة القدم الهجومي المعتمد على الضغط العالي، تدريب المنتخب الأميركي في عام 2024 بعد انفصاله عن تشيلسي، بعقد حتى كأس العالم 2026.

وقال الرئيس التنفيذي والأمين العام للاتحاد الأميركي للعبة جيه.تي باتسون في بيان صحفي "يؤمن ماوريسيو وفريقه بمستقبل كرة القدم في الولايات المتحدة، ومشروعنا الجديد يسمح لنا بالبناء على التقدم الذي حققه المنتخب الأميركي لكرة القدم وزخم كرة القدم في أميركا".

وتحت قيادة بوتشيتينو، تصدرت الولايات المتحدة مجموعتها في كأس العالم متقدمة على أستراليا وباراجواي وتركيا، برصيد ست نقاط؛ وهي الحصيلة الكبرى التي يحققها المنتخب في تاريخ مشاركاته في البطولة.
