أصدرت السلطات النيوزيلندية، الخميس، تحذيرا من خطر حدوث تسونامي عقب زلزال بلغت قوته 5.9 درجات ضرب الساحل الغربي للجزيرة الجنوبية، داعية السكان هناك إلى "الانتقال فورا" إلى مناطق مرتفعة.

وقالت الوكالة الوطنية لإدارة الطوارئ إن على سكان المناطق المتضررة التوجه إلى "أقرب منطقة مرتفعة، خارج مناطق الإجلاء بسبب خطر تسونامي، أو إلى أبعد نقطة ممكنة داخل اليابسة".
