ذكر مسؤول تنفيذي في شركة أمازون اليوم الخميس أن الشركة تتوقع إطلاق المرحلة الأولية من خدمة الإنترنت عبر شبكتها (ليو) للأقمار الصناعية ذات النطاق العريض في وقت لاحق من العام ‌الجاري، وذلك بعد أن رفعت أحدث عملية إطلاق عدد الأقمار الصناعية ضمن كوكبتها المدارية إلى أكثر من 390 قمرا.

وانطلقت أحدث دفعة من أقمار أمازون الصناعية، وتشمل 29 قمرا، من فلوريدا في وقت مبكر من صباح اليوم الخميس على متن صاروخ من طراز (أطلس في) تابع لتحالف الإطلاق ⁠المتحد (يونايتد لونش ألايانس)، ليكون هذا الإطلاق هو الرابع عشر ضمن عشرات من عمليات الإطلاق المزمعة لنشر أكثر من 3200 قمر صناعي لتوفير تغطية إنترنت عالمية من الفضاء.
