رحّب الرئيس اللبناني جوزاف عون الجمعة بإعلان فرنسا وايطاليا السعي لتشكيل تحالف دولي متعدد الجنسيات، ليحل محل قوة اليونيفيل بعد انتهاء مهامها في جنوب لبنان.

ورأى عون في المبادرة، وفق بيان عن الرئاسة، "تعبيرا صادقا عن الالتزام الدولي بدعم سيادة لبنان واستقراره، وتثمينا حقيقيا للدور الذي تضطلع به القوات المسلحة اللبنانية في حفظ الأمن وبسط سلطة الدولة على كامل أراضيها، لا سيما في المناطق الحدودية الجنوبية".

وكان الرئيس الفرنسي ايمانويل ماكرون أعلن عقب محادثات مع رئيسة الوزراء الإيطالية جورجيا ميلوني الخميس، "نريد إطلاق ائتلاف حول آلية عمل ما بعد اليونيفيل، طبعا بالتنسيق مع الاتحاد الأوروبي والأمم المتحدة، لتعزيز سيادة لبنان وقواته المسلحة والحؤول دون أن تصبح أراضيه قاعدة لتصعيد إقليمي".
