تضاعفت معدلات الفقر في السودان منذ اندلاع الحرب قبل ثلاث سنوات، بحيث بات 70% من السكان يعيشون تحت خط الفقر، حسبما أفاد الممثل المقيم لبرنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي في السودان لوكا ريندا.

وقال ريندا "بالنظر إلى الوضع قبل الحرب... نجد أن معدلات الفقر تضاعفت فعليا. قبل الحرب، كان يعيش نحو 38% من السكان تحت خط الفقر، أما الآن فنُقدّر أن النسبة بلغت نحو 70%".

وأضاف أن واحدا من كل أربعة سودانيين يعيشون في فقر مدقع بأقل من دولارين في اليوم.
