قالت رئيسة المفوضية الأوروبية أورسولا فون دير لاين، إن فاتورة دول الاتحاد الأوروبي من واردات الوقود الأحفوري زادت بأكثر من 22 مليار يورو (25.7 مليار دولار) منذ بداية الصراع في الشرق الأوسط قبل 44 يوما.

ووفقا لـ (دويتشه فيله)، أضافت دير لاين، إن "هذا يظهر التأثير الهائل لهذه الأزمة على اقتصادنا"، مشيرة إلى أن على دول الاتحاد الأوروبي العمل معا لتخفيف التداعيات المالية الناجمة عن الحرب.

ولفتت إلى أن المفوضية ستقدم تدابير معينة الأسبوع المقبل قبل اجتماع لقادة التكتل في قبرص بما في ذلك إستراتيجية جديدة بشأن الكهرباء، موضحة "نحن ندفع ثمنا باهظا للغاية لاعتمادنا المفرط على الوقود الأحفوري ما يستدعي التوسيع بالطاقة المتجددة والنووية في الاتحاد الأوروبي".
