قالت الأمم المتحدة اليوم الثلاثاء إنها عينت كريستيان سوندرز، قائما بأعمال وكالة الأمم المتحدة لإغاثة وتشغيل اللاجئين الفلسطينيين (الاونروا) بين الأول من نيسان ولغاية 30 حزيران المقبل نظرا لانتهاء فترة ولاية المفوض العام للوكالة فيليب لازاريني، كما تقرر تعيين سوندرز بمنصب المفوض العام بالإنابة للاونروا بدءًا من الأول من تموز المقبل وحتى إشعار آخر.

وقال بيان أممي إن الأمين العام انطونيو غوتيريش اعرب عن بالغ امتنانه للازاريني على التفاني الدائم والالتزام البارز تجاه الاونروا ورفاهية اللاجئين الفلسطينيين، مؤكدًا دعمه العميق وتقديره لموظفي الاونروا على العمل الحيوي الذي يقومون به في مجالات الصحة والتعليم والمساعدات الإنسانية في ظروف شديدة الصعوبة.

واكد غوتيريش أهمية التزام الدول الأعضاء والشركاء الآخرين بالاونروا والخدمات التي تقدمها في منطقة متقلبة.
