أفاد مسؤولون في الإدارة الأميركية أن الرئيس دونالد ترامب أبلغ مساعديه بأنه مستعد لإنهاء الحملة العسكرية على إيران حتى إذا ظل مضيق هرمز مغلقًا، مع تأجيل أي عملية معقدة لإعادة فتحه إلى وقت لاحق.

وأوضح المسؤولون لصحفية وول ستريت جورنال أن ترامب يركز على تحقيق أهدافه الأساسية المتمثلة في إضعاف البحرية الإيرانية ومخزون الصواريخ، مع الضغط دبلوماسيًا على طهران لاستئناف التدفق الحر للتجارة، فيما يمكن لحلفاء واشنطن في أوروبا والخليج أن يتولوا إعادة فتح المضيق إذا فشلت الجهود.

ووفق ما نقلت الصحيفة فإن المسؤولين أشاروا إلى وجود خيارات عسكرية يمكن للرئيس اتخاذها، لكنها ليست من أولوياته الفورية.
