حذّر الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترامب في مقابلة مع صحيفة فايننشال تايمز نُشرت مساء الأحد، من أن الجيش الأميركي بإمكانه الاستيلاء "بسهولة كبيرة" على جزيرة خارك، وهي موقع نفطي حيوي لإيران.

وقال ترامب للصحيفة ردا على سؤال حول وضع الدفاعات الإيرانية في الجزيرة "ربما نستولي على جزيرة خارك، وربما لا. لدينا خيارات عديدة... لا أعتقد أن لديهم أي دفاعات. يمكننا الاستيلاء عليها بسهولة كبيرة".

وتعرضت الجزيرة الواقعة في شمال الخليج على بعد نحو 30 كيلومترا من سواحل إيران، لهجوم أميركي في منتصف آذار/مارس.

وتضم الجزيرة أكبر موانئ إيران النفطية ويوفر حوالي 90 في المئة من صادرات البلاد من الخام، وفق مصرف "جاي بي مورغان" الأميركي.
