أظهرت وثيقة أن الجيش الأميركي طلب الجمعة، من شركات تعدين المساعدة في تعزيز الإمدادات المحلية من 13 معدنا استراتيجيا يستخدم في صناعة أشباه الموصلات والأسلحة وغيرها من المنتجات.

جاء هذا الطلب قبل يوم واحد من شن الولايات المتحدة وإسرائيل ضربات على إيران، وهو أحدث مثال على ضعف وصول واشنطن إلى مواد تستخدم على نطاق واسع في الحروب.

وأظهرت الوثيقة أن وزارة الدفاع الأميركية (البنتاغون) طلبت من أعضاء تحالف القاعدة الصناعية الدفاعية (دي.آي.بي.سي)، وهو مجموعة من الشركات والجامعات وغيرها من الجهات الموردة للجيش، تقديم مقترحات بحلول 20 آذار بمشروعات لاستخراج أو معالجة أو إعادة تدوير النيكل والجرافيت والمعادن الأرضية النادرة وغيرها من المعادن.
