قال الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترامب الثلاثاء إن سفن البحرية الأميركية سترافق ناقلات النفط أثناء عبورها مضيق هرمز "في حال الضرورة".

وكتب ترامب في منشور على منصة تروث سوشال "في حال الضرورة، ستبدأ البحرية الأميركية بمرافقة الناقلات عبر مضيق هرمز في أسرع وقت ممكن. مهما كان الأمر، ستضمن الولايات المتحدة التدفق الحر للطاقة الى العالم"، وذلك في اليوم الرابع من الحرب في الشرق الأوسط التي أطلقها هجوم أميركي إسرائيلي على إيران.
