تحشد الولايات المتحدة وجوداً عسكرياً ضخماً في الشرق الأوسط، حيث تتجاوز مستويات قوتها الجوية بكثير تلك التي شوهدت خلال عملية "مطرقة منتصف الليل" في وقت سابق من العام الماضي.

تضم القوات أكثر من 50 طائرة مقاتلة، وقاذفات ثقيلة، ومجموعات حاملات طائرات هجومية، وأسرابًا من طائرات التزود بالوقود. ولا يزال هذا الوجود يتوسع.

يُعد هذا أكبر حشد عسكري أمريكي في الشرق الأوسط منذ غزو العراق عام 2003، ويقترب حجمه من حجم حرب الخليج عام 1991.
