افتتح نيكو أورايلي التسجيل للسيتي في الدقيقة 18 بتسديدة أرضية قوية من خارج المنطقة سكنت الزاوية.

وردّ نيوكاسل سريعًا في الدقيقة 26 عبر لويس هال الذي أطلق تسديدة من مشارف الجزاء اصطدمت بريان آيت نوري وخدعت الحارس قبل دخولها الشباك. لكن فريق بيب غوارديولا استعاد التقدم في الدقيقة 31، حين ارتقى أورايلي لعرضية إيرلينغ هالاند وحوّلها برأسه داخل المرمى.

وفي الشوط الثاني حافظ أصحاب الأرض على تفوقهم رغم محاولات نيوكاسل، ليحصد السيتي ثلاث نقاط ثمينة في سباق الصدارة، قلص بها الفارق مع آرسنال الى نقطتين فقط.
