دعا الرئيس الفرنسي إيمانويل ماكرون الجمعة في ميونيخ إلى التعامل مع أوروبا "كمثال" يُحتذى به بدلا من "انتقادها" أو "تشويه صورتها"، وذلك ردا على خطاب استفزازي ألقاه نائب الرئيس الأميركي جاي دي فانس خلال نسخة العام الماضي من المؤتمر نفسه.

وقال ماكرون في مؤتمر ميونيخ السنوي للأمن "تم انتقاد أوروبا باعتبارها كيانا عجوزا، بطيئا، ومجزأ، ومهمشا بفعل التاريخ. باعتبارها اقتصادا مفرط التنظيم وخاملا، ينأى بنفسه عن الابتكار. باعتبارها مجتمعا يعاني من هجرات همجية تُفسد تقاليده العريقة. والأغرب من ذلك، في بعض الأوساط، كونها قارة قمعية لا حرية للتعبير فيها".
