أكّد المفوض السامي للأمم المتحدة لحقوق الإنسان، الاثنين، أن الفظائع التي ارتُكبت خلال استيلاء قوات الدعم السريع على الفاشر في السودان تُعدّ "كارثة" كان من الممكن تجنبها، معربا عن مخاوفه من تكرار أحداث مماثلة في كردفان.

وقال فولكر تورك أمام مجلس حقوق الإنسان التابع للأمم المتحدة في جنيف "لطالما حذر مكتبي من خطر وقوع فظائع جماعية في مدينة الفاشر التي ظلت محاصرة أكثر من عام. وقد وثقنا سابقا أنماطا من هذه الفظائع في مناسبات عديدة، بما في ذلك خلال هجوم قوات الدعم السريع للاستيلاء على مخيم زمزم... كان التهديد واضحا، لكن تم تجاهل تحذيراتنا".
