أفادت وسائل إعلام أمريكية، الخميس، بأن حلفاء الولايات المتحدة في الشرق الأوسط يحاولون على مدار أسابيع لثني الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترامب عن توجيه ضربة عسكرية ضد إيران.

وكتبت صحيفة "نيويورك تايمز": "حتى قبل أن يوجه الرئيس ترامب تهديدًا جديدًا ضد إيران يوم الأربعاء، كان حلفاء الولايات المتحدة في الشرق الأوسط يصرون على منع ضربة عسكرية على طهران، خشية دفع المنطقة إلى صراع أوسع نطاقًا"، حسب قولهم.

وكان الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترامب قد صرح في وقت سابق بأن "أسطولًا ضخمًا" يتجه نحو إيران، بكامل الجهوزية لإتمام مهمته بـ"سرعة وعنف"، موجّهًا تهديدًا صريحًا لطهران بضرورة القبول باتفاق حول عدم امتلاك سلاح نووي، وإلا فإنها ستواجه ضربة "أكثر سوءًا" من تلك التي تلقتها سابقًا.
