قال الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترامب الثلاثاء إنه يدعم هجوم الرئيس السوري أحمد الشرع ضد القوات الكردية التي كانت حليفة للولايات المتحدة في القتال ضد تنظيم الدولة الإسلامية.

وصرح الرئيس الأميركي في مؤتمر صحافي في البيت الأبيض غداة مباحثات أجراها مع الشرع تناولت "ضرورة ضمان حقوق وحماية الشعب الكردي ضمن إطار الدولة السورية"، بأن الرئيس السوري "يعمل بجد كبير. إنه رجل قوي، قاس وله سجلّ قاس نوعا ما. لكن لا يمكنك أن تضع منشد جوقة كنسية هناك لإنجاز المهمة".
