أعلنت سلطة منطقة العقبة الاقتصادية الخاصة عن اندلاع حريق في مكب النفايات القديم الواقع بين الجبال، نتيجة اشتعال نفايات بلاستيكية قديمة، ما أدى إلى تصاعد كثيف للأدخنة في موقع الحادث.

وأكدت السلطة أن كوادر الدفاع المدني، وبالتعاون مع كوادر سلطة منطقة العقبة الاقتصادية الخاصة ومحافظة العقبة والجهات المعنية، باشرت التعامل مع الحريق بشكل فوري، حيث يجري حاليًا السيطرة عليه، دون تسجيل أي إصابات بشرية.

كما طمأنت السلطة المواطنين بأن الوضع تحت السيطرة، وأن الجهات المختصة تواصل متابعة الموقف واتخاذ الإجراءات اللازمة لضمان السلامة العامة.
