أعلن الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترامب الجمعة أن تنظيم الدولة يواجه "ردا انتقاميا قاسيا جدا" في سوريا من قبل القوات الأميركية، وذلك عقب هجوم في تدمر أودى بحياة ثلاثة أميركيين.

وكتب ترامب على شبكته الاجتماعية تروث سوشال بعد وقت قصير من إعلان البنتاغون عن إطلاق عملية عسكرية في سوريا، "أن أعلن هنا أن الولايات المتحدة تقوم برد قاس جدا، كما وعدت، ضد الإرهابيين القتلة المسؤولين" عن الهجوم، مضيفا "نوجه ضربات قوية جدا ضد معاقل تنظيم الدولة الاسلامية في سوريا".
