اليونيسف: سوء التغذية يهدد حياة مليوني طفل سوداني

حثت منظمة الأمم المتحدة للطفولة "اليونيسف" الحكومة السودانية والمجتمع الدولي على تكثيف الجهود لحماية أرواح الأطفال في ظل تصاعد الصراع والصدمات المناخية في البلاد.

وقالت المديرة التنفيذية لليونيسف، كاثرين راسل عقب زيارة إلى جنوب السودان، إن أكثر من 2.1 مليون طفل دون سن الخامسة معرضون لخطر سوء التغذية، و9.3 مليون طفل - أي ثلاثة أرباع السكان - يحتاجون إلى دعم إنساني منقذ للحياة. فيما وصل ما يقرب من 1.3 مليون لاجئ وعائد فارين من الحرب في السودان إلى جنوب البلاد ما زاد الضغط على محدودية المياه والغذاء والخدمات الطبية.

وأشارت راسل إلى أن تأثير الصراع والصدمات المناخية يخلق "عاصفة من المعاناة الكاملة للأطفال في جنوب السودان، في سياق محفوف بالمخاطر بالفعل".
