قال الرئيس الفنزويلي نيكولاس مادورو الإثنين، خلال تجمع حضره الآلاف من مناصريه في كراكاس، إنه يرفض "سلام العبيد"، مشيرا إلى أن الانتشار الأميركي في منطقة الكاريبي يضع البلاد "على المحك" منذ 22 أسبوعا.

وتابع مادورو "نريد السلام، ولكن نريد سلاما مع السيادة والمساواة والحرية! لا نريد سلام العبيد، ولا سلام الاستعمار"، وذلك في حين يعتزم الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترامب عقد اجتماع مع مجلس الأمن القومي الإثنين لمناقشة الوضع في فنزويلا.

وتقول واشنطن إنها تحارب عصابات المخدرات، وقد نشرت لهذه الغاية منذ آب/أغسطس قوات عسكرية في منطقة البحر الكاريبي، بما في ذلك أكبر حاملة طائرات في العالم.
