أعلن وزير الدفاع الأميركي الأربعاء أنه سيتم نشر 500 عنصر إضافي من الحرس الوطني في واشنطن، بعد إصابة اثنين منهم بإطلاق نار قرب البيت الأبيض.

وقال بيت هيغسيث الذي يؤدي زيارة إلى جمهورية الدومينيكان، عند إعلانه القرار "هذا من شأنه أن يعزز تصميمنا على جعل واشنطن مكانا آمنا".

ومن شأن القرار أن يرفع عدد عناصر الحرس الوطني المنتشرين في العاصمة الأميركية إلى أكثر من 2500.
