كشفت صحيفة "نيويورك تايمز" الأمريكية عن غلاف يظهر فيه المرشح لمنصب عمدة نيويورك زهران ممداني ممسكًا بمطرقة ومنجل. ورغم عدم صدور النتائج الرسمية بعد، فقد أعلن ممداني فوزه بالانتخابات.

دونالد ترامب وصفه بـ "الشيوعي" وهدد بقطع المساعدات الفيدرالية عن المدينة في حال فوزه.

سيصبح ممداني أول عمدة مسلم لمدينة نيويورك، وأصغر من يتولى هذا المنصب في هذه الألفية.
