قال جي دي فانس، نائب الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترامب، الخميس، إنه يجب اختبار الأسلحة النووية الأميركية للتأكد من أنها تعمل وتؤدي وظيفتها.

وكان ترامب قد أعلن أنه سيبدأ فورا تجارب جديدة للأسلحة النووية، مستشهدا ببرامج التجارب في دول أخرى.

وبعد ساعات من إعلان ترامب، الذي أدلى به على منصته "تروث سوشيال" أثناء وجود الرئيس الأميركي في كوريا الجنوبية للقاء الزعيم الصيني شي جين بينغ، أخبر نائب الرئيس جي دي فانس الصحفيين أن التجارب ضرورية لضمان أن الترسانة النووية الأميركية تعمل.

وقال: "في بعض الأحيان عليك اختبارها للتأكد من أنها تعمل وتؤدي وظيفتها بشكل صحيح"، مضيفا: "للتوضيح، نعلم أنها تعمل بشكل صحيح، ولكن عليك أن تظل مطلعا عليها بمرور الوقت، والرئيس يريد فقط التأكد من أننا نفعل ذلك".
