في حادثة مأساوية، لقيت امرأة بريطانية تبلغ من العمر 53 عاماً حتفها، بعد حصولها على حقنة لإنقاص الوزن من السوق السوداء داخل مركز تجميل محلي.

الضحية، وتدعى كارن ماكغونيغال من سالفورد في مانشستر الكبرى، كانت تعاني تراجعاً في صحتها النفسية عقب انفصالها عن شريك حياتها، الأمر الذي أثر بشدة على ثقتها بنفسها ودفعها للبحث عن حلول سريعة للتخلص من وزنها الزائد، وفقاً لصحيفة "ذا صن" البريطانية.

وتوجهت كارن بناءً على نصيحة من صديقاتها إلى مركز تجميل يوفر حقن تخسيس غير مرخصة مقابل 20 جنيهاً إسترلينياً فقط للجرعة.

وتلقت السيدة الحقنة خلال دقائق قليلة بواسطة عاملة تقليم الأظافر في مركز التجميل، بحسب رواية الأسرة.
