أعلن الرئيس الفنزويلي نيكولاس مادورو مساء الإثنين تعليق اتفاقيات الغاز المبرمة بين بلاده وجارتها ترينيداد وتوباغو، وذلك ردّا على استضافة الأرخبيل الصغير الناطق بالإنكليزية مدمّرة أميركية على وقع تصاعد التوتر بين كراكاس وواشنطن.

وقال مادورو عبر التلفزيون إنّه "في مواجهة تهديد رئيسة الوزراء (الترينيدادية كاملا بيرساد-بيسيسار) بتحويل ترينيداد وتوباغو إلى حاملة طائرات للإمبراطورية الأميركية ضدّ فنزويلا (...) وافقتُ على إجراء مؤقت يقضي بتعليق فوري لكلّ مفاعيل اتفاقية الطاقة" المبرمة بين البلدين والتي تتضمّن اتفاقيات مهمّة في مجال الغاز.
