اقترح الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترامب الخميس طرد إسبانيا من حلف شمال الأطلسي (ناتو) بسبب فشلها في تلبية متطلبات الإنفاق الدفاعي البالغة 5% من الناتج المحلي الاجمالي التي كان ترامب قد أكد عليها سابقا.

وقال ترامب للصحافيين في البيت الأبيض "لدينا عضو واحد متقاعس، أنها إسبانيا"، مضيفا "ليس لديهم أي عذر لعدم تحقيق ذلك، ولكن لا بأس بذلك. ربما يجب طردهم من الناتو بصراحة".
