أعلنت وزارة العدل الأميركية أنه وُجهت الخميس إلى مدير مكتب التحقيقات الفدرالي السابق جيمس كومي اتهامات بارتكاب "جرائم خطيرة" مرتبطة بالكشف عن معلومات حساسة.

وأفادت الوزارة في بيان أن لائحة الاتهام التي أصدرتها هيئة محلفين فدرالية كبرى تزعم أن كومي عرقل تحقيقا يجريه الكونغرس وأدلى بشهادة كاذبة. وفي حال إدانته، يواجه كومي عقوبة السجن لمدة تصل إلى خمس سنوات، وفقا للمدعية العامة الفدرالية ليندزي هاليغان التي عيّنها الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترامب في منصبها قبل أيام.
