أعلن الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترامب الجمعة أنه سيستقبل نظيره التركي رجب طيب إردوغان في البيت الأبيض في 25 أيلول/سبتمبر، مرجحا أن يتوصل البلدان الى اتفاق بشأن صفقة طائرات مقاتلة بعد تباين طويل الأمد بشأنها.

وكتب ترامب على منصة تروث سوشال "نحن نعمل مع الرئيس (إردوغان) على العديد من الصفقات التجارية والعسكرية، بما في ذلك صفقة كبيرة لشراء طائرات بوينغ، صفقة كبرى (لمقاتلات) إف-16، ومواصلة المباحثات بشأن إف-35، والتي نتوقع أن نختمها بشكل إيجابي"
