استخدمت واشنطن مرة جديدة الخميس الفيتو في مجلس الأمن الدولي ضد مشروع قرار لوقف إطلاق النار في غزة، دعما لموقف حليفتها إسرائيل وتخفيف الضغط الدولي عليها.

وأيدت 14 من الدول الـ15 الأعضاء في المجلس، فيما استخدمت الولايات المتحدة العضو الدائم فيه حق النقض.

وقالت المبعوثة الأميركية مورغان ارتاغوس قبل التصويت "ترفض الولايات المتحدة هذا القرار غير المقبول... تواصل الولايات المتحدة العمل مع شركائها على إنهاء هذا النزاع المروع"، مشددة على وجوب أن تفرج حماس عن الرهائن "وأن تستسلم فورا".
