قال مصدران مطلعان لرويترز إن من المقرر أن يصل وزير الخارجية السوري أسعد الشيباني إلى واشنطن اليوم الخميس في أول زيارة رسمية إلى العاصمة الأميركية منذ تولي الرئيس أحمد الشرع السلطة في دمشق العام الماضي.

ونقل موقع أكسيوس في وقت سابق عن السناتور الأميركي لينزي جراهام قوله إن الشيباني سيجتمع خلال الزيارة، وهي الأولى لوزير خارجية سوري إلى واشنطن منذ أكثر من 25 عاما، مع مشرعين أمبركيين لمناقشة رفع العقوبات الأمبركية المتبقية على بلاده.
