أكد الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترامب الجمعة أن صبره حيال نظيره الروسي فلاديمير بوتين ينفد وألمح إلى إمكانية فرض عقوبات مشددة على خلفية حرب أوكرانيا، مشيرا في الوقت نفسه إلى ضرورة تقديم كييف تنازلات.

وقال ترامب لشبكة "فوكس" لدى سؤاله عما إذا كان رفض روسيا وضع حد للنزاع يشكّل اختبارا لصبره، "إنه ينفد وينفد سريعا"، مشددا على وجوب مساهمة الطرفين من أجل التوصل إلى حل. وأضاف "إنه أمر مذهل. عندما يريد بوتين القيام بذلك (التوصل إلى اتفاق)، لم يرد (الرئيس الأوكراني فولوديمير) زيلينسكي ذلك. وعندما أراده زيلينسكي، لم يرده بوتين. الآن زيلينسكي يرغب في الأمر بينما هناك علامة استفهام بشأن بوتين. سنضطر إلى اتخاذ إجراءات حازمة للغاية".
