اعتبر رئيس الوزراء الإثيوبي أبيي أحمد أن سدّ النهضة "إنجاز عظيم ليس فقط لإثيوبيا، بل لكل الأفارقة"، وذلك خلال تدشينه الثلاثاء المشروع الضخم على النيل والذي يثير توترا مع مصر والسودان.

وقال أحمد إنّ السد "يظهر أننا... قادرون على تحقيق كل ما نخطط له"، متوجّها إلى دول الجوار بالقول إن "إثيوبيا أنجزت مشروع سدّ النهضة الكبير من أجل المجتمعات السوداء. هذا لن يؤثر على الإطلاق على تنميتكم".
