حذر مفوض الأمم المتحدة لحقوق الإنسان الثلاثاء، من أن توسيع العمليات العسكرية إلى وسط قطاع غزة يرفع بشكل "كبير جدا" خطر حدوث انتهاكات جسيمة للقانون الدولي.

وقال فولكر تورك في بيان، إنّ "هذه الغارات الجوية والعمليات البرية الإسرائيلية ستؤدي حتما إلى مزيد من الوفيات (شهداء) بين المدنيين وتدمير البنى التحتية المدنية" محذرا من أنه "نظرا لتجمع المدنيين في المنطقة، والوسائل والأساليب الحربية التي استخدمتها إسرائيل حتى الآن، فإن مخاطر القتل خارج نطاق القانون وغيرها من الانتهاكات الجسيمة للقانون الإنساني الدولي مرتفعة جدا".
